This website is operated in the following capacities:
Data is collected, held and processed by Mike Rouse under ICO Registration Number ZA518164.
I am an Elected Member of Redditch Borough Council, representing the residents of Church Hill ward. As part of my work in the community I contact officers of the Council and other organisations on your behalf to investigate problems and provide solutions, and to answer your questions. The Data Protection Act (2018) allows me to collect and use the personal information you give me because I am helping you in my official role as your local Councillor. Under the Data Protection Act (2018) this is known as performance of a public task.
I am also a political activist for a political party and may wish to contact you at election time to canvass you for your support at an upcoming election. However, when you contact me as a Councillor I will not share your data with the Conservative Party unless you give me your permission to do so.
If you fill out a form on this website the data I may collect about you might include:
In some cases, to help you with certain cases, I may need to collect and store additional information, some of which may be sensitive in nature.
In addition to this website I may collect information about you in other ways, including:
If you leave a comment on my site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit the login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in to this website the system will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
This website also uses Analytics software to tell me about visitors to the website. This data is anonymised.
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
If you contact me with an issue it may be necessary for me to share your data with officers of the council, staff in companies, people who work for other agencies such as social services, a Member of Parliament, and other councillors as I deem appropriate in order to pursue matters on your behalf. Where possible I will let you know when I have done this and where I believe the matter is sensitive in nature I will try to get your permission before I talk with anyone else about your case. Unless it is necessary to provide you with help and assistance I will not share any data such as your email address and phone number.
In some cases I may be legally required not to tell you about data I have shared such as in relation to police investigations or when requested to do so by the police or other government agencies.
Where I am concerned about your safety and welfare, or about the safety and welfare of others who may be at risk of harm, I am duty-bound to pass your data and information to the most appropriate authorities to render assistance, and I may not tell you when I am doing this.
If you have contacted me about an issue I will keep your information usually for the duration of my term of office (4 years from May 2018). If I am re-elected for additional terms I will contact you to seek permission to keep your data for longer, otherwise it will be destroyed.
If there are open cases at the end of my term of office and I am not successfully re-elected I will use my best endeavours to pass your case to a colleague in the ward who remains on the council.
I may be required to keep your data for longer if required by law or other legal obligation.
If you leave a comment on this website, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on this website (if any), it will also store the personal information you provide in your user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
I try to keep all data within the UK, but some of the system I use may also be based in the United States, Canada and the European Union.

Even though Councillors are now exempt from registering with the ICO, I have taken the decision to register anyway because I take data protection obligations very seriously.
